Sketchy Thursdays #9.23: Being a superhero...

As you all could read in my blogpost here my little girl is also a superhero. I used the latest sketch of Sketchy Thursdays to create my layout. The sketch was meant for a double page layout, but since I hate doing double page layouts I used only half of the sketch..that is, the right half..and turned it 90 degrees:

Here is my layout:

I love how it turned out!
Some details:

I used a mask before spraying the glimmermist to create some depth for the cut out pictures.

I had troubles fitting in the image in the tiny square, so I decided to cut a part of the mask and slide this part over the black die cut. I think it turned out very cute, don't you?
I had a lot of fun with my comic clear stamps this time. Thanks to my black and white markers, which I use a lot in my art journal, I could make the stamps stand out more.
The title is handcut after I printed it.

Life is not about....

When I was watching some tutorials about art journaling on You Tube I found one with a very simple technique. And to be honest..it wasn't new for me, I just had forgotten about it and of course, I haven't combined it with art journaling before! That is also the fun about art journaling: I discovered that art journaling is using a lot of techniques which I used to do when I was a kid!
This technique is simple: cut out an image that you like, glue it on the background of your art journal page amd paint all over the image. I painted my background yellow, no fancy techniques needed for this. The letters of the pages in my book were shining through, which was enough for me.
After I painted my image I added some butterflies too, which I cut out of a magazine. I re-colored the butterflies with my Sakura glaze pens. At last I added the journaling, a quote I bumped into during my tutorial-hop on You Tube.

Prima BAP: You are the treasure at the end of my rainbow.

Prima is having a great sketch this month, so I loved to play with it:
And here is my layout:

I used the Umbrella papercollection. It wasn't a collection which I would have bought if I had the chance. I think Prima has lots of collections that are more beautiful. But still, now I got it thanks to my box of goodies, I had fun playing with it. All the flowers come from this box too, only I added some tiny roses to be the hearts of the flowers. The big rainbow colored flower has been created by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer and it was my starting point for this layout.
I cut out the little red flowers from one of the papers and added some stems from the small Prima roses.
I also cut out two of those cute crocodiles.
The title is a mix of chipboard letters I had in my stash which I traced with a black marker to create some unity.
I love how it all turned out! And you?

Crazy?

When I was working on my latest art journal page my husband was looking at me a bit worried...I saw him thinking..Has she really gone crazy now??! Has the paint infected her brains ???! (lol)
No, I just had a crazy good time! My MIL bought me a book about art and comics. It was for sale and she knows I like magazines and books with funny images, which I can cut out for my art journaling. So I started cutting randomly in the book and made a collage.I added some freestyle cut circles and scallop borders too.
I painted the background of my page in purple, with some strokes of white paint. After I glued down the images it looked like this:
Of course, this is just a funny collage. To make it an art journal page I needed to add some journaling.
So I went crazy again..this time with my markers and glaze pens!
Here is the result:

I would love to hear what you think of it!

And did you see the Faves at Sketchy Thursdays for this week????
I did! They chose my layout as one of their five favorites out of 77 entries!
How cool is that??!
This was my layout:

Christmas has come early this year!

Look what arrived on my doorstep yesterday evening...
My box of goodies, which I won with Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's Art Journaling Week!
It felt like Christmas had come early this year!!! So yummie!!!!
Wanna know what was inside the box???
Here it is:

Papers and scraps from different brands.

Lots and lots of Prima papers.

Demo's which she used during her DVD-recordings. (Love them and want to do something 'artsy' with these..!)

Flowers, brads and bling!

I loved to find these flowers in the box. I always watch her live shows for Prima and these flowers are the ones she pimped during a show loaded with techniques!

Sekura Glaze pens, Maya Road chipboard buttons and butterflies, Kenner Road stamps, stickers, Hambly rub-ons and some other lovely goodies!

And last but certainly not least: Julie's ATC! (If you click on the link you can see the rest of her ATC's in these series.)
(front)
(back)
Is this a great prize to win or what??!!!
Thanks, Julie!

A little bit of Julie, Traci...and me!

I felt like doing some more art journaling this week! Of course, you all know by now that I'm very much inspired by Julie Fein-Fan Balzer's art journaling. I love her patterns and the colors she uses. Another great mixe media artist..I've told you about her before...is Traci Bautista. She also uses lots of patterns and colors in her artwork, only a little bit more graffiti look. She draws her 'Girlie Glam'-faces a lot and I love them!
So, for my art journal page I did yesterday I copied one of her Girlie Glam faces. The other patterns are inspired by Julie:

I used watercolor paint, gelly roll glaze pens and some markers.
Today I did another page. I watched Julie's liveshow for Prima this morning, in which she painted a canvas bag shaped mini-album. I really wanted to try and 'so something' with her pattern of leaves she often uses.
That was my starting point...the rest sort of followed automatically:

The cute fish come from an artbook about comics. I just cut them out and added some extra lines with my marker. The journaling isn't about fish at all! It is just a little story about today and the fact that I love it when I get some ME-time during the day...instead of waiting until the kids are in bed.
The leaves and the background are painted with watercolor paint. De pink and purple flowers are painted with acrylic paint. As always, the finishing touch is done with my black and white markers!

Sketchy Thursdays 9.09: Sweet

Another great sketch at Sketchy Thursdays! Here is the sketch:
I turned it over and then one time counter clockwise...
Here is my layout:

I used Webster's Pages, the Magical Wishes collection. Lots of handcut details again!
Some of the flowers are handmade. The big rose in white and red is made with what (I believe) is called the grunge technique with a big six petal punch (diameter 5,5 cm).

I have a small six petal punch (diameter 1,5 cm!) too, so I tried the same technique with this one. And it worked! See the small red roses:

And I used my japanese washi tape again! I love this tape! This time I used the tape with the black dots.
I sticked some tape on a piece of vellum and punched it with a border punch.
I also added some pieces on the top of my layout.
The flocked title letters are from Kelly Panacci. The letters were very thin so I sticked these on a piece of paper and cut these out to create more dimension.

Scrapfever challenge: Create Art every day.

Scrapfever is having a scraplift challenge right now. I cannot show you the layouts which were the examples for the scraplift, but the one and only restriction were to use at least 9 cards/tags/pieces of paper (same size).
So I started with a piece of canvas, which I covered with pieces of painters tape (to add more dimension) and gesso. Than I painted the canvas roughly with turquoise paint, with a big brush, so the white was still showing. I stamped red circles, colored these with purple paint and also stamped some tulips and with bubble wrap. I used the back of my paintbrush to add some soft pink dots. Finally I added some black and white lines with my markers.
I cut the canvas in little pieces of 7x5cm and sticked some japanese washi tape pieces on them. (The stripes and dots in black and white.)
I took a white piece of cardstock and sprayed two rectangles, also 7x5 cm, in the middle with pink glimmermist (color S.W.A.K.). I splashed some black paint as well on the cardstock.
After I attached the pictures and the pieces of canvas I stitched some extra freestyle accents with yellow thread. I stitched around the layout with some red thread.
The title was printed first and than cut out. The colored flowers were in my stash for years and now they fit perfectly! I only added some white accents with a marker.
The journaling says: While daddy is sleeping in the sun, you decorate his arm with paint and clay. Afterwards followed your own face...You had a great time!

Here it is:
And some details:

Sketchy Thursdays 9.02: Ik wil niet lopen!

Sketchy Thursdays is having a great sketch this week. It has been a long time since I worked on one of their sketches but this one was calling me: Use me! Use me!
Here is the sketch:
And here is my layout:

The title means: I don't wanna walk! My little girl Laura can be very cocky. She makes me feel angry and mollified at the same time. She looks so cute when she doesn't want to cooperate! Still, I can't give in in those situations of course or she would grow up to be a very spoiled kid.
But this time I couldn't resist to take a picture...

Card with Webster's Pages

A few weeks ago I made a card for a contest. This was a contest for which you had to send in the card itself instead of a picture of it. Stupid enough, I forgot to take a picture before I sent it. Luckily enough, I had enclosed an envelop to myself so they could send it back. And I got it back this afternoon.
So here it is:
The contest was to work with the model of the card, with half of the front folded backwards.
I used my 6x6" paperpad from Webster's Pages to decorate the card. A lot of hand cut details again.
I attached some transparant sheet to the front and decorated this with some bling and tiny butterflies.
The title 'Just arrived' was printed first and than cut out too.

This is the folded part, with a cute birdcage in the window and some more butterflies.

And this is the inside of the card.

Is it cute or what?!
I don't know yet if it will be a winning card for the contest, but at least I have a great card to send to new born baby's...

We all know...

... how expensive our scrapbooking hobby is, right? We have never enough supplies! We can always use some more chipboard shapes, alphabets and papers.... And we can never leave a scrapbookstore without having bought lots and lots more than our budget allowed us...So what is more fun than to go to an outlet of books and find lots of scrapbooksupplies for very low value?!
I went to such an outlet this morning. It is once a year here in the neighbourhood. A huge exhibition hall is filled with books and office and hobby supplies. Most of these hobby supplies are of low quality but among all this were also lots of supplies of K&Company. 12x12" Paperpads, stickers, embellishments, chipboard, etc.
Here are some of the supplies I bought:
The assorted chipboard tags are from Around the Block, the butterflies and alphabets are from K& Company. Total costs: 10 euro!
The alphabets in the plastic bags come in one big box: Letters To Go. The box is filled with over 2500 two-sided pieces in nine different styles! (As you can see I want my alphabets organized instead of in one big box..lol)

I also found these:
The bag on the left has lots and lots of space for my supplies and tools. Lots of compartments to fill! The picture doesn't show but the bottom is extendable.
The red bag on the left is for my 12x12" papers.
Total costs: 11 euro!

And oh..I almost forgot...I bought some books too...lol.
