Have Fun!

I finished a new page in my art journal...again. It is starting to look like an addiction...!
This time I made a few pictures during the proces, so I can show you a little step-by-step art journaling.
I spend a few hours last week, going through a big pile of magazines, cutting out everything that might be useful in my art journals. This saved a lot of space...I threw away the magazine left overs...lol. And more important, it saved a lot of time when I started assembling the pieces I wanted to use on my page!
This is what I assembled for my page:
My art journal pages are 15x21 cm. I used the rectangle pieces to create a border on my page.
Like this...
I was so busy trying not to forget to make the step-by-step pictures that I completely forgot to paint my background first. I had already glued down all the pieces before I noticed...
So this is what my page looked liked with the image on top:

I decided to color the background yellow with my Neocolors. I thought that adding acrylic paint at this stage was asking for trouble...
I added the little green square in the corner and a pair of eyes, because I wasn't satisfied the way it looked.
Finally, I doodled away with my markers again..et voilà!

Happy Halloween!

It's the weekend of Halloween!
So why not make an art journal page in Halloween style? The scary elements came from a digital scrapkit, called Welcome to my Nightmare from Holliewood Studios. I added some cut outs from magazines and painted a purple background.
To finish the page I doodled again with some black and white markers and added some shadows with my Neolor II pastels.

Happy Halloween!

New art journal pages!

Yes! Here I am again! After more than a week without a blogpost!
It was not because I wasn't creating...I just didn't have anything to show you. But now I have!!!
I have been busy with art journaling last week. I was completely inspired by the collage technique. Cutting out faces, letters, funny patterns to create borders, arms and legs, etc. During my daily bloghop I discovered a great blog, named Pringle Hill Studio, loaded with lots and lots of great art journal pages. I was so inspired I wanted to try something like that too!
I decided to create a new art journal as well. I was working in a old book but somehow I got a bit irritated. I didn't like taping the pages together, not having a flat white background (despite the bookpages and the gesso) and it didn't work very relaxing with a thick book.
Now I cut some thick quality sketchbook paper (180gr) to a size of 15x21 cm. I found a leather notebook with a metal binding inside on the bottom of my stash, so now I can create my pages and put them in the notebook afterwards...which explains the holes on the left side of my pages.
Here they are:

Did you notice she is 'wearing' a lamp?!

Funny detail: her handbag was originally a powder puff! I made a bag out of it by attaching a strap...lol!

A little bit of 'how-to-do'  a page like this: I painted my background first, with acrylic paint, using the scraping-with-an-old-creditcard technique. I created the art dolls by mixing up faces, body's, shapes etc. These little pieces were all cut out from magazines: glossy's like Elle and Vogue, but also VT Wonen, Flow etc. I created the borders with colorful pieces of patterns I found in the magazines.
To finish the page I doodled with paintmarkers (mainly black and white) and some Sakura glaze pens.
I used my Neocolor II pastels to create some shades.
(I forgot to make a picture before I started the doodling..will show you next time when I work on a new page!)
I would love to hear if you like my art journal pages!

Sketchy Thursdays November GDT Challenge: Sometimes...

My layout for the November GDT challenge at Sketchy Thursdays is completely inspired by Brit. You should really take a look at her blog. She makes such beautiful and most of all MAGICAL layouts!
The challenge for the GDT spot in November was a sketch and there had to be orange somewhere on your layout and you had to use a punch. This is the sketch:
I rotated it counterclockwise for my layout:

It has become a hybrid layout. All the elements, like the animals amd the ladder are from the SPRING FAERIES kit by Holliewood Studios. The little clouds came from the DAY ONE kit by Lauren Grier.
The title is printed first and than cut out. I used Leila's Alpha Templates by Libby Weifenbach Designs.

I gave my little girl a little crown and some wings. I drew some 'angry clouds' above her head too, inspired by Donald Duck!
Doesn't she look cute? Even when she's angry...(lol)?

And how about this toad? This can only happen in fairytales!
I used a punch to create the orange leafs. I cut some blades of grass from green scraps too.
I had so much fun making this layout. I'm definitely gonna try something like this again!

October Challenge at Webster's Page: Scrap Dress

Since I love working with Webster's Pages so much, I decided to become a member of their Inspire Me ning network. Their gallery is loaded with inspiring layouts, cards and altered projects.
And they were having a great...greater than great!...challenge this month: dress a dressform!
Is this a challenge or what???!!! For me it was! But I loved doing it!
Your project had to be 90% Webster's product. Because I didn't have any papers any more, onyl scraps left from previous projects, I made a dress out of scraps...a scrap dress!
Here is my dressform:
I created the dress on the inside of a framed canvas.
I painted the sides of the frame with golden paint and distressed these with black paint.
The front and the inside is covered with patterned paper.

I made the dress with folded strips of patterned paper.
I cut out a dress form from black cardstock and embroidered golden beads on it.
With a six petal punch (a big one and a very small one) I created the roses. I also added some cut out flowers and leafs.

The frame is decorated with some more handmade roses and cut out flowers.
I'm so happy how it all turned out. I started with only a vague idea in my head and this is what came out!
This canvas will definitely be decorating my living room for a long time...

Sketchy Thursdays 10.07: UnBEElievably cute little girl

Here is my take on the latest sketch for Sketchy Thursdays.

I started with this sketch and had great ideas..somehow..halfway, I lost my inspiration and gave myself a hard time finishing my layout. (That's me..I always try to finish my layouts, just as long as I'm at least 90% satisfied!) So, this is my 90% satisfied layout:

Mini-album: A day to Remember

Last week I wanted to make a mini album...just for me! Not for a challenge or anything else...only for me, me, me! That means: no restrictions...I love it like that...(lol)!
I had some great pictures, waiting for me since we got back from Sweden this summer. I made these pictures on one of the best days ever. That day started as a very rainy day. We were visiting Göteborg for the first time. Also for the last time..we didn't like it at all in this big city..which has a lot to do with the rain also probably. So we deciced to explore the coast, just a few kilometers above Göteborg. I had seen pictures on internet etc. and it looked very beautiful.
While we were driving to the coast the rain stopped and the sun began to shine! Just a few kilometers before we reached our goal, the isle Mårstrand, we stopped at a beautiful spot next to the road. And from that moment on the day that started so bad turned out to be..a day to remember!
I took some (lots!) of great pictures there. The kids were even willing to pose for me.
When we drove further to Mårstrand we were pleasantly surprised. It felt like we had found a piece of the Mediterranean See in Sweden! We spent a few hours in the village of Mårstrand, walking and enjoying it all.
And of course...I took lots and lots of pictures.
I used the best ones in my mini album. I had this album for some time in my stash and the color of the cover was  'swedish red'..so perfect! I wanted to give the album the same tropical feeling as we felt that day so I added a lot of flowers. I cut out a lot of the flowers from my Webster's Pages papercollections (a mix of Sweet Cherrie Pie, Magical Wishes and Postcards from Paris). And I used a lot of Prima flowers and little roses. I made the rose on the front myself, just like some flowers on the inside.
Are you ready??? Here it is:

I took a lots of pictures of the surroundings. I didn't want to add anything to the pictures in the album, but just let them speak for themselves. So I attached two pictures with the back against eachother, rounded the corners and added the pictures as extra pages through the album.

Do you like it as much as I do?!

Top 10 Finalist for the Kreadoe Challenge!

A few weeks ago I entered the contest for the Kreadoe, the biggest hobby- and craftshow here in the Netherlands. They had five categories and one of them was..of course...scrapbooking. You had to send in a layout about your summer. I sent in my mini-album, which I made directly after we returned from our summerholiday in Sweden. This one:
You can find more about it here.
And now I was chosen as one of the ten finalists in this category!
From today till the end of October people can vote for the layout or project they like the most. Of course I sent my complete adressbook an email to plea for votes. I hope my blogreaders will vote for me too.
You can vote here. I'm at number 10 of the list. (The website is in dutch...you have to fill in your first name, last name and emailadress and a motivation why you vote for me.)
The top three of each category wins two free entrance tickets to the show. The overall winner will win free entrance for 30 people. A touring car to drive all these people to the show and bring them home is included. How fun is that? (Especially since I'm living at very short distance from the place where the show is held...)
At the first of November the winners will be announced!

Sketchy Thursdays Fave!

My superhero layout was chosen as one of the five favorites at Sketchy Thursdays! Yeah!
